Our family really likes to camp! Unfortunately, we only had one opportunity this summer, but it was a good one! Last summer we tried to get a campsite at a campground on the beach only to find out that all beach campsites are booked by early in the year! This year we tried to beat the crowds and reserved a site in January. Even then, we only got a "C" rated campsite - the ratings ranging from A-D, "A" being the best. So yes, in January, the best we could get was a "C!" That's how fast they fill up. Anyway, we went to one of the best campgrounds in Southern California - Leo Carrillo in Malibu. It was beautiful and a short walk to the beach. We went with our good friends, the Whitings, and had a great weekend together!
Clara and Tyler always have to help daddy with the tent. Daddy is a good sport about it!
Spending time at the beach
Our 4th of July was looking pretty lame, until a spur of the moment decision changed all that! We, along with our friends, the Whitings and Sotos, decided to rent a cabin up in Big Bear for the weekend. Best spur of the moment decision ever! It was a bit cramped with 3 families with 2 kids each, but we made it work and we had tons of fun! It was also nice to get away from the 110 degrees! Plus, the fireworks show was awesome! Supposedly the best show in Southern Cali.

Fireworks are so much more magical with kids! Tyler and Clara were awe struck!
Our last day there the men decided to mountain bike down a ski slope. In the summer, the ski slopes turn into a mountain bike trails, which you access by going up the ski lift. The moms and kids just took the scenic trip up and down the mountain on the ski lift.
